Shane and Amy Hughes

Thank you for considering open adoption and us as adoptive parents for your child. We want you to know that we respect you and would be honored to go on this journey with you. We hope that by reading our letter, you will get a glimpse into our lives and see the offer of love and support for both you and your child. We'd love to welcome you to our family!

We met at a Halloween costume party eleven years ago and got married at the beach in Florida two years later. We still love to celebrate Halloween and can't wait to dress up and take our little one trick or treating. Shane has a great sense of humor and can always make Amy laugh. Our child is sure to have the latest jokes ready for their friends. We enjoy spending family time together and can often be found sitting on the floor playing Monopoly or Scrabble as we try to prevent the cats from walking all over the game and playing with the pieces! We look forward to adding Go Fish and Operation to our collection.

While most of Shane's family is located nearby, Amy's is spread across the country. We look forward to sharing the first plane ride to Grandma's and seeing our child's expression when they put their toes in the ocean. Our nieces, who are at the prime age for babysitting, are waiting in the wings to care for their new family member. The local park is just a hop, skip and a jump from Grandma Hughes' house and she is ready to take her grandchild on strolls to feed the ducks.

We live in Lafayette, Indiana, which is halfway between Chicago and Indianapolis so we have the best of both worlds when it comes to the divers activities we are able to participate in. We enjoy going to plays and concerts and Amy has taken the train several times to Chicago for the day. When we're not at work, we enjoy doing projects around our house or spending time with our dog, Sophie. Our neighborhood is full of families who are very active. We are looking foward to having play dates with neighbors and having family picnics by the community sand box. Shane is looking forward to constructing our first swing set and we've already picked the perfect spot! We've also started a garden, but since Amy has a black thumb instead of a green one, Shane and our child will have to be in charge!
