Adam Fingerhut and Stewart Halpern
About Adam
(as written by Stewart)
Adam is the sunniest, funniest person I know. He is so open and engaging that adults and kids alike gravitate toward him. He loves to paint and make arts and crafts projects; he makes sure our house is always filled with a lot of color.
Adam is a wonderful caregiver. He knows just how to nurture me when I am sick. I know he will do the same for our child - whether it’s making a fresh batch of chicken soup or providing a hug and a cuddly stuffed animal.
Adam is a Psychology professor which allows him to combine two of his favorite interests: people and learning. He loves helping his students realize who they are. Whenever I meet his students they always tell me that Adam is the professor that changed their lives. Adam cannot wait to nurture a child of our own and to help that child find his or her passions and to be a truly happy person.

About Us
We met in 2001 shortly after Adam moved from San Francisco to L.A. to begin graduate school. We started out as friends but quickly realized that we were meant for each other. After two years together we decided to get engaged - Adam proposed to Stew with a treasure hunt and Stew proposed to Adam with a Gospel choir. For our wedding, 180 of our family, friends, and parents’ friends gathered to support us.
Our dog Izzi loves to play and is great with kids. We often lend her to friends in need of a little puppy therapy. We know she is going to be a devoted pal to our child.
Our Family and Friends
Both of us come from very tight knit families. Adam grew up in Phoenix, AZ - swimming all summer long in the pool with his older sister. Stew grew up in Memphis, TN - riding bikes and exploring with his older brother and sister. We take family vacations multiple times every year - going to the beach, to Disneyland, camping in Yellowstone, or to our families’ homes in Phoenix, Memphis, Seattle, and Atlanta. Our six nieces and nephews are eager to have another cousin, and our parents are ready to put their unbelievable grandparenting talents to work (again!)
In addition to our amazing families, we feel blessed to have a strong support network of friends to celebrate holidays with, to bounce ideas off of, and to share the joys and sorrows of everyday life.
Our Interests
We love to be creative. Whether it involves cooking a new dish with an exotic ingredient we found at the farmer’s market or creating wacky structures out of Legos, we take advantage of every opportunity to think outside of the box.
We spend a lot of our time with our friends and their children. We often host dinner parties where we hang out in the kitchen and have great conversations and then gather in the dining room to eat and to play board games
Our Home and Community
We recently bought our first home, a dream come true for both of us. We live in an incredibly special neighborhood in Los Angeles. From our house we can easily get to the beach, to downtown L.A., to community parks, local museums, and to a variety of outdoor farmer’s markets.
Our neighborhood is very diverse, with people of all ages and ethnicities and even several families who have also adopted children. There are always people walking with their children and their dogs. It feels wonderful to be able to stop and chat with neighbors and to share a community. Every year, the neighborhood holds a Halloween carnival where everyone can gather. Last year entertainment was provided by a local middle school student and his band. It was awesome! We cannot wait to take our child to share in the fun.
About Stewart
(as written by Adam)
Stew is my favorite person in the world (although I know he will be willing to share this title when our child comes along). He loves to laugh and is an avid game player. With Stew around, our child will have no shortage of water guns and bubble machines.
Stew is the most creative person I know; our nieces and nephews love to gather around him to hear the amazing stories he creates. I can only imagine the new tales Stew will tell our child as he puts him or her to bed at night. Stew’s creativity extends to his work as a TV producer and documentary filmmaker. He discovered his love for film as boy when his dad and he would make films together.
Stew is incredibly generous and devoted. For 13 years, he has been a Big Brother to two young boys in L.A., Tony and Ethan - helping them grow into wonderful young adults. I know he is going to be the best dad, loving our child unconditionally.
