John Bergman & Hiromi Maxwell
Life with Hiromi
Hiromi is the most thoughtful person I have ever met. Special occasions and holidays are her favorite times of the year. She always remembers our friends and family birthdays by sending a card to mark the occasion and shops for Christmas throughout the year. She loves shopping at farmer’s market for flowers and fresh vegetables and really enjoys cooking. As a mother I can picture Hiromi taking our child on walks around the lake and hiking in our local parks. She will spend hours teaching our child about gardening and the little animals that call our yard their home. I know that as our child grows Hiromi will be there holding their hand and encouraging them to grow.

Thank You for Getting to Know Us
We are John and Hiromi from Oakland California and we would like to invite you and your baby into our family. We know that this is the most difficult time for you and admire your courage for choosing an open adoption and our hearts and prayers go out to you. We know that you want the best for your child and want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read more about us.
How We Became a Family
We met 12 years ago at our local community college while studying landscape design. We were good friends for 8 years before we started dating. Our marriage is built on laughter and love, which has brought us true happiness. We enjoy exploring life and all of its surprises and want to share these precious moments with our beautiful child.
Home Life & Family
We live in a neighborhood called the Laurel District in the Oakland. We live in a quiet neighborhood with an elementary school at the end of our street. Our home sits among trees on a third of an acre with a small pond. Everyday we enjoy watching the birds eating seed from feeders or bathing in the pond. Looking out off the deck we can watch the squirrels racing around the trees jumping from limb to limb. Our home is our little piece of heaven and we would like to share it with you.
Our family is very supportive and is a major part of our lives. Throughout the years John has volunteered at his nephews sporting events usually as an umpire during baseball game. Now our family can’t wait to spoil our child. We are a family that loves children and we can guarantee that our child will get enough love and adventure to fill a lifetime.
What We Want to Share with Our Child
The dream for our child is to always give him or her all of our love and support. Our child will be given the best of life that we can offer. He or she will have the opportunity to travel to Japan to meet the cousins and grandparents who live near Tokyo. During the winter we travel to mountains to ski and spend time in the summer fishing and hiking in Yosemite. Summers will be full of outings and sports to help them develop into a well-rounded person.
Holidays are always special. One reason is that Halloween is John’s birthday. Every year we have Christmas Eve at our house and Christmas Day at John’s brother’s house. Thanksgiving is celebrated with friends with each of us hosting the dinner at a different house each year. We love to spend the 4th of July at the Berkeley Marina and enjoy the music festival and fireworks. We look forward to celebrating Girl’s day or Boy’s day, a Japanese Buddhist holiday, Easter egg hunts, and of course the birthday of the special child you will share with us who will complete our family.
Life with John
John is full of life and energy. He enjoys life for the adventure that it is and enjoys teaching others about the nature around him. He taught me about camping and how to catch my first fish in the mountains of California. I will enjoy watching John teach our child how to throw and catch ball or showing them how to fish along the shore of a mountain lake. He enjoys baseball, riding bikes and will join any game being played at picnics and family events. For John, family always comes first; when someone needs help he is the first one there. With our friends children he encourages them with their studies and offers help if they want it. I think John will be a wonderful father!
