Angela and Matt Bernier
Our Careers
Matt has a master’s degree in physical therapy and loves his job as the director of physical therapy for an orthopedic surgeon. He is challenged everyday to rehabilitate his patients so they can return to their daily activities. Angela has her bachelor’s in occupational therapy and has her master’s degree in special education. Angela treasures her job as a school-based occupational therapist and handwriting tutor. She gets satisfaction from seeing her students who have special needs grow and develop their skills so they become more independent in their school and home environment. Both of us feel education will be a strong background in our child’s life and we plan to help him or her learn in and out of the classroom.

Our Story
As soon as we met in college, we knew that we had a strong bond and were meant to be together. After dating for five years, we were married on a beautiful June day in 2005. We are each others’ confidants, cheerleaders, and best friends. We have a warm, nurturing relationship that is based upon open communication. We have devoted our lives to each other and can’t wait to dedicate our love and lives to our child.
Our Interests
Matt has been drawn to sports throughout his life as a player and a fan. He enjoys coaching volleyball for the local high school and looks forward to coaching our child’s tee ball team to the league championship. We can’t wait to take our child to a variety of sporting events, especially college basketball and football. As dedicated football fans, our family will dress up in our favorite jerseys to root on the New York Giants football team. As an avid scrap-booker, Angela has a page already designed for the picture of our child wearing his or her first Giants jersey. We are excited to sit down as a family to flip through the pages of our child’s scrapbook and share his or her story. Cooking is another activity that we do together as a family. As parents, it will be amazing for us to have our child join us in cooking our family’s favorite recipe of Italian meatballs and pasta sauce. We love traveling and are looking forward to exploring new and exciting places as a family.
Our Family
We are so lucky to have a large, warm, and supportive family. They are so encouraging of our plans for adoption and can’t wait to add a new addition to our family. We love to get together to share family dinners, birthdays and holidays. We are excited to share our Christmas tradition of a huge Italian style meal at Grandma’s house in Rhode Island with our child. Nanny is thrilled to take her grandchild to the county fair and watch him or her enjoy the merry-go-round for the first time. Our child will get to enjoy regular trips to visit his or her cousins in Pennsylvania and California as well. It will be a special moment for us when we put our child in our laps and sled down the hill with our nephews following close behind. We consider our friends family as well and look forward to having their children over for play-dates, birthday parties and summer cookouts in the backyard.
Our Pet
Parker is our loving and gentle golden retriever. Our friends’ children love playing ball, running and getting kisses from him. We know our child and Parker will be the best of playmates, running around the backyard playing soccer with each other. Halloween is a holiday that will prove to be exciting as our child will be dressed up in his or her favorite costume with Parker tagging behind as “Spiderman.”
Our Home and Community
We are lucky to live in a neighborhood with many children for our child to play with. We can’t wait to hear our child’s laughter as he or she swings with friends on our swing set that is already built in our backyard or finds the best hiding space in the house during a game of hide and seek.
We love where we live because we are a short drive or subway ride into Washington, DC. Our child will experience the amazement of standing underneath one of the last remaining supersonic jets when we visit the Air and Space Museum. We also look forward to learning about animals as a family and exploring the wonderful exhibits at the National Zoo, especially our favorites, the giant panda bears!
