Career/Occupation

I have been a police officer for 9 years and was recently promoted to sergeant. I like that each day is different and that this career provides me with a mental and physical challenge. I like being in the fresh air and talking to people in the community. When the baby arrives, I plan to take about 8 months off from work for family leave. Once I return to work, my child will be in daycare 4 days a week. I have 3 days off each week. When important events like school plays or field trips arise, I plan to take the day off from work to make sure I’m there.

Welcome

I realize you must be overwhelmed at this moment deciding what is best for you and your baby. Thank you for taking the time to consider my letter. I hope it will help you get to know me and decide what is best for your baby. I look forward to building a lifelong relationship built on openness and honesty. Thank you for considering me. Feel free to visit my adoption site www.mitchsf.com.

About Me

I’m originally from Sugartown, Louisiana and still have family in Louisiana. I moved to the Bay Area in 1991 and have been here ever since. I also have family in California both in the San Francisco Bay Area and Fresno.
I was raised with traditional family values and taught to put the family first. My family taught me to be honest, always keep my integrity intact and to be loyal. My jobs in the Army and the police department have reinforced those values. As a police officer, I have learned to be fair when enforcing laws and to hear both sides of a story before taking action.

My brother, Richard, is 9 years younger than me and I helped care for him growing up. Some of my favorite memories are giving him pony rides on my knee while watching cartoons and walking him to class his first day of preschool. Richard now has a 4 year old son. Most of my cousins have children, so there are lots of kids to play with at family events.

Why I Want to Adopt

Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to be a dad. I’ve had roommates in the past with children. It was a great experience to be involved in their lives going to school events and field trips. I feel ready to be a parent. I hope to one day find that special person to share my life with, however being a father will always be my top priority.
I chose open adoption after hearing a friend’s story of placing her baby for open adoption. After hearing from her the peace of mind knowing how her child was being raised gave her, I began looking into open adoption. Now 10 years later, I’m ready to adopt.

There are so many things I want to do with my child I can’t name them all. I plan to be involved in activities that interest my child. I want him/her to always know that I love and support them. I look forward to playing games, camping, hiking and fishing with my child. I love to build and make things. I hope to pass this on to my child by showing them some of the things I love to do, such as drawing, cooking, woodworking and gardening. I look forward to decorating for the holidays with my child and teaching him/her about each holiday.

Where I Live

I live in beautiful San Francisco, California. I love that San Francisco is a diverse place which celebrates many different cultures. Near my home are schools, parks and restaurants. I have owned my home since 2007. I share my home with two dogs, Tyler and Dice. They are friendly and love to play with people, kids and other dogs. Dice is a black labrador and Tyler is a pit bull terrier mix. I often take them on adventures to Ft. Funston (a beach for dogs). I can’t wait to take my child to the playground near the house. I usually travel to Fresno, to see family every couple of months for the weekend. Everyone gets together for dinner and afterwards we play card games. In the summer, we swim in the pool at Aunt Wilda and Uncle Bill’s house and play bocce ball.

Interests and Hobbies

I’m a very active person and enjoy most sports and outdoor activities. I love being outdoors in nature whether it is riding a bicycle, hiking, camping, kayaking or wake boarding. I often take scenic photos of nature. I enjoy drawing, woodworking, cooking and much more.

In June 2009, I completed the AIDS Lifecycle Bike Ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It was a life changing experience which showed me that anything is possible. I have been hooked on cycling ever since.
