Eric Shrewsbury & Chris Cain
About Eric, by Chris
Every day, I stand in awe of Eric's energy. He never stops going! He wakes up every morning with an enthusiasm for life unmatched by anyone else I know. Whatever the obstacle, he charges through, does his best and smiles the whole way. He takes pleasure in life's simple joys. He's dedicated his career to educating others and is always rooting for the underdog. Every day I spend with him is brighter for having him as part of my life. I know he'll share all his enthusiasm with our son or daughter and be the first to laugh at their jokes and join in their games.

Birds of a Feather: About Us
We almost didn't happen! Five years ago, Chris worked at a vet's office. Eric tried to say hello, but Chris was distracted by an energetic and very large patient on the other end of the leash. He didn't even notice! Thankfully, some opportunities do knock twice. Since we met, our lives have been endlessly enriched from knowing one another. We depend on one another and we make a great team. We delight in making each other happy and we look forward to sharing our happiness with a child!
Eric works as a college professor teaching Spanish, reading and education courses. It's hard work, but the bonus is he makes his own schedule each semester. Chris also speaks Spanish and we look forward to sharing our knowledge with our little one! Chris works part-time as a bank teller, but plans to stay home with our son or daughter at least until the start of preschool. Our child will always have someone to meet the school bus! Our household currently consists of three fun-loving dogs, Ayla, Stanley, and little Fritz. Our child will always have someone to watch Saturday morning cartoons with on the couch!
Feathering Our Nest: Home & Family
We are fortunate to live in a spacious home with a big backyard on the quietest street we've ever known! Our neighborhood is very safe and has a great park. The stream there is just perfect for our child to wade in and have fun in the mud when the weather's hot. Chris works just minutes away from home and the elementary school. When tummy aches need special attention, we won't be far. Even closer than the school is the local ice cream stand. We can already imagine our child’s smiling face covered with chocolate and vanilla ice cream while he or she eats a Purple Dinosaur sundae! Roanoke is a charming city with museums, festivals, libraries and a cute zoo on a mountain overlooking the city. On the way home, we can look forward to stopping by the local library so our son or daughter can select the perfect bedtime story to read together.
Our families are very excited about a new addition to the family and have already started making plans for small adventures with our child! Grandma Betty lives just a few minutes away and we see her almost every day. She would love to take her grandchild to feed the ducks on sunny days or jump in puddles after a summer storm. Our child will be the first grandchild for Chris' parents and they can't stop talking about all the things they want to do with him or her. Our child will be able to roar at the lions at the National Zoo or walk into space shuttles at the Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Sharing secrets with Mickey and Minnie are a must with Grandpa Jack on trips to Disney World! Our child will be surrounded by love and hugs!
Birdsong: Our Favorite Things
We share a variety of interests and cannot wait for our child to enjoy new activities with us. Eric is a black belt in karate and looks forward to teaching our son or daughter's first karate class. We share a love for animals and nature. We are looking forward to adventures with our child, like feeding giraffes and dolphins or posing as a family with tropical birds on our shoulders! We also love to see movies, and plays, especially Cirque du Soleil shows. We can't wait to show our child the magic of the flying acrobats. We can even pretend we're flying on exciting roller coaster rides someday! When all our energy is gone and little eyes start to droop, we'll read our child's favorite bedtime stories together. As our little one drifts off to sleep, he or she can dream of the wonderful fairy tales we've read about.
About Chris, by Eric
When I think about Chris, a fun-loving and a caring person are the first things that come to mind. I have always been impressed with his knowledge of the world and his willingness to learn more! He loves to sing while doing little things around the house to make everything a little more exciting. He has always been eager to join me in my little adventures and I know that he will be just as eager to join our son or daughter when they start describing their dreams too.
