Francis Mijares and David Constantine

When we met at a friend’s birthday party in 2007, there was an instant connection. We each spent the next few months trying to accidentally bump into each other until our friends invited us to dinner one night 6 months later. We were immediately inseparable, as endless texting and late night phone conversations turned into sipping coffee at our favorite coffee shop and lazy days walking on the beach or exploring the city. A few months later, we were sharing dreams for a new life together.

Although we come from different worlds – David a native Texan who has traveled the world and Francis who grew up in the Philippines – we have many of the same passions, interests and goals in life. We really are a perfect match, loving and supporting each other completely.

In our spare time, we love to travel. Whether it’s a weekend trip to the beach or Sam Rayburn Lake or a journey to exotic parts of the world like Costa Rica and Egypt, we can’t wait to show our child the world! Francis loves gadgets and computers, and looks forward to helping our child build a robot for his or her science fair project. David loves cooking and reading. He can’t wait to see the delight on our child’s face as they lick the brownie mixing spoon or laugh uncontrollably at how silly Dr. Seuss can be.

We both love our jobs! Francis is a nurse practitioner and runs his own medical practice. He can’t wait to teach our little one how to play doctor or to fix their first “boo-boo.” David works from home as a magazine editor and will always be around the house to fix our child’s mid-day snack, play dress up or build a Lego starship. We both have very flexible schedules and look forward to being at every music recital, soccer practice and school play.

Our families are very supportive of us adopting and can’t wait to welcome our little one into the family! Our entire family lives within a couple hours drive and our child will spend countless days playing with their five first cousins who are all under the age of 5. Hannah, our 5-year-old niece who is also adopted, can’t wait for a playmate and friend that also has a “tummy mommy.” Nanny and Grammy, David’s grandmother and mother, and Mama Bee, Francis’ mother, look forward to singing lullabies to their grandchild — and spoiling them rotten.

We live in Beaumont, Texas, a family-friendly and diverse community an hour outside of Houston. Beaumont is best known for its friendly people, many outdoor activities and good food. Nestled near the Gulf Coast beaches, several lakes, a national park and Houston, our weekends will be spent building sandcastles, fishing with family or exploring the zoo in Houston. Our home is located on a quiet street in an historic district of Beaumont, with large fenced in backyards and lots of neighborhood kids. During the summer, our neighborhood will be the perfect place to set up a lemonade stand or teach our child how to ride a bike. We can’t wait to enroll our child in the children’s dance, karate or pottery classes held just across the street!
