Will Batts & Curtis Petty

Our relationship began twelve years ago with pizza and a movie. We knew right away that we were meant to be together. A year later, we celebrated our anniversary with a commitment ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Each year we renew that commitment not only to ourselves but also with our loved ones. Our relationship is based on trust, unconditional love and a strong sense of family. We’re so excited about building our family, passing on our many family traditions and sharing that same love and commitment with our child.

Curtis is a pharmacist at a local children’s hospital. He’s a natural caregiver and finds great personal fulfillment in taking care of children. Curtis’ greatest joy comes from the laughter and smiles he gets from the children he works with every day. Will is the Executive Director of a local community center where he directs life-changing services for the Memphis community. Our careers offer us flexible schedules and we look forward to school field trips or hiking through the woods for a family picnic.

Both of us come from strong, loving families made up of people we’re related to as well as friends we’ve gained throughout our lives. A strong sense of family and community is something that we will pass on to our son or daughter. Between us we have a total of five siblings and four nieces and nephews who look forward to showing our child how to build sand castles on our family beach trips! Our parents share a grand total of 60 years of commitment to one another and have given us great examples to follow. Mamaw loves to crochet and can’t wait to see the joy in her grandchild’s eyes as he/she learns to make his/her first afghan, and Pops, who sings in the choir at church, is excited about teaching his grandchild to proudly sing the alphabet song.

We love to travel and our favorite destination is New York City. We look forward to seeing the wonder on our child’s face as he or she sees New York from the top of the Empire State Building. We’re big sports fans too. We play softball in the spring and summer, and golf whenever we can. We can’t wait to celebrate our child’s first homerun. We also love to cook! Sharing grandmother’s family recipes and watching our child make their first batch of Christmas thumbprint cookies is something we look forward to.
