Open Adoption Counselor, San Francisco Bay Area Branch
Adoption has always held a special place in Nashwa's heart since both her and her husband’s grandparents were adopted. Prior to working at IAC, Nashwa worked with pregnant and parenting foster care youth and helped start a sex education program for middle and high school students in Oakland Unified School District. Working with IAC, feel like a “full circle moment.” When not working, Nashwa enjoys fostering stray cats and dogs, hiking, throwing TV and movie viewing parties, and travelling back to Egypt to spend time with her family.
Open Adoption Counselor, New York Branch
Stephanie has a Bachelor’s in Youth and Community Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University. She is a counselor in IAC’s NYC office. She has a background working with youth in both non-profit and high school settings. She finds supporting women in crisis particularly rewarding and enjoys the opportunity to talk about open adoption. When not working, Stephanie enjoys travel, reading, running, and spending time with friends and family.
Open Adoption Counselor, Raleigh Branch
Nicole is an Open Adoption Counselor in the North Carolina office. She received her MSW from Georgia State University and holds a BSW from the University of Georgia. Nicole has gained additional knowledge in her field while working in the public school system and in mental health research positions. She's worked with diverse populations during emotionally challenging times and is honored to work with our families during this incredible journey. Nicole is new to North Carolina and is excited to get to know the area better. When not working, Nicole enjoys watching Netflix, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She devotes most of her Netflix queue to cooking competitions, although she mainly survives off of take-out and drive-through meals. She also enjoys being at the ocean, and is excited to spend time exploring the different beaches in the area. Nicole is very excited to be working with the Independent Adoption Center to help bring families together through open adoption!
Open Adoption Counselor, Indiana Branch
Tanya graduated from the historic College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Tanya went on to receive her Master's of Social Work from Indiana University in 2011. As a licensed social worker, Tanya has a passion for working with children and families, and has held jobs with Healthy Families Indiana, Adult and Child Mental Health Center, and most recently as a Child & Adolescent Therapist with Midtown Community Mental Health Center. Tanya is excited to continue helping children and families through the gift of open adoption. When Tanya is not working she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, reading and doing Zumba!
Open Adoption Counselor, Los Angeles Branch
Kathleen has always been very passionate about women’s reproductive health and choices, as well as children and families. As an Open Adoption Counselor at the IAC, she is able to combine these interests and help people from all parts of the adoption triad experience the wonder of open adoption. Kathleen graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Psychology. She then went on to complete her Master’s of Science in Social Work degree at Columbia University in New York and was a post-graduate fellow in Clinical Social Work at Yale University. Kathleen has worked for the IAC since 2007 and loves being a part of such an amazing process. In her spare time, Kathleen loves visiting friends and family around the country, hiking with her dog, Lola, and staying active with yoga, dance, and Pilates.
